The sample
Soul, gospel and jazz records, chopped by hand. Each chop is played in, so the groove drifts the way a band drifts.
The swing
Drums are sequenced on an Akai MPC with its swing engaged, then printed. That late hi-hat and early snare are deliberate.
The keys
Chords, leads and bass come off Yamaha keyboards, played live over the chop. Mixes are finished in the room they were made in.
